Hi I am brand new here. I have never worked or volunteered in prisons or with prisoners. So why am I here you might ask. Well it is not that easy to answer. Prison reform, prisoner rights, and compassion for people, have always been a part of me. I have worked behind the scenes and in donation areas. Now I find I am ready to do more. Not sure what that will be but I am looking forward to learning, helping, and sharing dharma. I have been a buddhist for about 10 years now and I am passionate about the benefits of meditation. I look forward to getting to know you all and any advice on direction or what you have enjoyed I would appreciate hearing about.

Welcome Tracie! Please feel free to ask any questions here!

Hi Tracie,

If you are interested in prison reform and Dharma, there are many ways to get involved - from offering to facilitate a meditation group in a prison to becoming a pen-pal.  My personal belief is that prisoners empowering themselves with Dharma practice can have an unseen effect that over time may result in profound changes to the system - not to mention the profound changes it will surely have to the prisoner who is meditating!

Warmly,
