ISO Prisoners, Ex-Prisoners, and Volunteers to Interview for college project on Prison Meditation Programs

Namaste!

I am a member of the Shambhala Meditation Center of Washington, DC, and a student at the University of Mary Washington, in Virginia, finishing a bachelor's degree in leadership theory with a concentration in organizational behavior. I will graduate in May 2008 (finally!) at the age of 41.

For many several now, I have followed the work of the Prison Dharma Network. I am writing at this time because I am doing a research paper and presentation for one of my classes, and the topic I have chosen is the impact of prison meditation programs. The project will discuss the benefits of meditation, as documented by recent medical research, describe existing prison meditation programs, and provide insight into the impact of these programs, as reported by participants.

I am seeking prisoners, ex-prisoners, and volunteers to interview as part of this project. Interviews would take roughly 15 minutes and would be conducted via telephone. If you're interested in being interviewed, please contact me via (info deleted).

Many thanks!

Lisa

I will be glad to help. I started a prison program 9 years ago and at present we are involved in 8 facilities which include County, State and Federal Institutions. Meditation is a big part of our program and you see changes in the inmates, male/female, who have taken up the practice. Just recently we started a program of meditation for the deputies at one of the Councy facilites.

Lisa, there's currently a review in the Buddhist section of Beliefnet of The Dhamma Brothers film. You may want to check out the review and add a post letting people around the world know about your research project.
