I have been a Unitarian Universalist since I was 19 years old and have been an Activist in Social Justice issues since the 60's. I have seen the politacal, leagel and prision system sink deeper into a "power eliet" brutal and de-humanizing reality Lessons learned during the struggle for the prison reform that my Unitarian forefathers fought so hard for have been rejected.

Most importantly is the fact that my son was killed in the commission of a crime while he was under the influence of drugs. He was only 22 years old and had he lived, might very well have had to spend most of his adult life in this system.

Any program that treats prisoners with comppassion and gives them a pathyway to self-love,dignity and hope has my admiration and support. I believe to my core that we are "our brothers keepers" and "there but for grace go I" Any system based vengence and demonization is bound to failure. The society that chooses it is corrupt and lacks moral integrity.

I do not follow the practice of Zen but have many friends and loved one who do follow the path. I know that it's practice alleviates human suffering. This is the direction that any society must take if it is ever going to be able to honestly call itself civi. Brutaliy beget's brutality.

I would be proud to serve this network way that I can. I am particulary in letter writting.
