Hi Christopher,
I just now saw your reply. I guess the message didn't get through to my email. I'll let you know the next time I'm in Chiang Mai, so we could meet. I spend time in Chiang Rai often, but Chiang Mai not so often. Or, if you're ever in BKK, let me know. Meanwhile, maybe you could help me by telling me what you know about places in Chiang Mai (or elsewhere in Thailand), where group retreats could be held. I'm the coordinator of the Bangkok Shambhala meditation group, and we're looking to have some retreats when we have visiting teachers. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jamie

It is really hard to stay in Thailand and even harder to make a living for most foreign people. I am fortunate to have a good job here but my wife is a Thai national which makes things much easier. English teaching is a joke unless you have a masters degree and can find employment in a university full time but the salary is quite low and there is no room for advancement or pay increase. In any event, I would be happy to help you find something when you start looking.

Hi, I have finished CPE and have 5 units and have been a chaplain here for about 5 years. I lived in Thailand for 2 years in the past as well as the rest of SE Asia.
My hope is to spend some more time there but am trying to find creative of doing so that i can support myself.

Hi Christopher,
Nice to hear from you. There are two prisons in Bangkok, actually Nonthaburi, just North of Bangkok. The one I've been visiting is Bangkwang. There's a Canadian guy, Adrian, in there who contacted PDN about 5 years ago, wanting to learn meditation. He's been visited regularly by a meditation instructor, and also has a steady stream of visitors by other random people who read about him on blog sites. I've been visiting a Nepalese man, Chet Bahadur Ghalan (aka Sangye Gyeltsen) who used to be a Nyingma monk. He'd like more visitors. There's also a few other people who practice meditation with those two, who haven't had any visitors to talk to them about meditation. Why don't you contact me and let me know when you're planning to come to Bangkok, and we'll arrange to meet up.

Cheers,
Jamie
