"Very exciting!  However, I can't seem to go to the website for Path of Freedom. It seems you have to be invited by someone to be a member before you can go to their website where the webinar will show.  "

How you are involved in Prison Dharma
Volunteer, Interested
My Prison Dharma Group or Organization
I would like to volunteer/mentor and help in any way possible. I study with the Shambhala lineage and attend the center in Albany, NY.
Tell us about yourself & your interest in prison dharma: (answer required) .
My background includes a graduate degree in human development and in diversity studies, working as an individual and family counselor for at risk teenagers, attending a socially conscious peaceful Unitarian Universalist society, campaigning for marriage equality and transgender equality and justice, and practiced mindfulness in the Shambhala lineage. I am a person who wants to help people find ease in their suffering. Reading "The New Jim Crow" and working with my UU to campaign for prison rights has prompted me to take action with people who are incarcerated. I am eager to share loving kindness and compassion with this particular population.
Prison or Dharma Books I Love
"The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander. "Contemplating Reality: A Practitioner's Guide to the View in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism" by Andy Karr. "Getting Unstuck," and "When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times" by Pema Chodron. "How to Be Sick: A Buddhist-Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and Their Caregivers" by Toni Bernhard and Sylvia Boorstein. "Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life With the Heart of a Buddha" by Tara Brach.

Hi Gretta -
I'm happy to be your friend here at PDN. Looked at the "books I love" that you wrote and became interested in "How to be sick..." That book may find it's way to my bookshelf in the future.
I hope we may inspire and support each other here at PDN in different ways.

Welcome Gretta!

Glad you found us! This is a wonderful online community that we hope serves you. We'd love for you to post a picture of yourself as well, it helps others to see they are communicating with real humans!

We have one of our own great webinars coming up, that you may be interested in called "The Path to Freedom." Its a course for those who are interested in working with prison populations and youth and also just in general in our lives. I've taken it 3 times already and I highly recommend it!

We're looking forward to seeing your posted pictures, videos, blogs, discussion topics, etc.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the site or check out the “Help” tab at the top of this page.

Welcome Aboard!

Smiles,

madrone
