- Am not as familiar with the prison population but I worked for a couple of years with asylum seekers and immigration detainees who can be locked up for as long as a couple of years with no trial and no idea of how long they will be there. While working with a legal unit to find them free legal services was fulfilling in many ways, what I realized was that inner spiritual awareness would bring more hope to the detainee population that any legal battle. Growing up in a Christian community, meditation was not emphasized. However, in the past couple of years, practicing meditation has been a transformative experience for me and I would love to help bring this practice to all kinds of persons in prison, whether correctional centers or detention facilities.
