Tell us about yourself & your interest in prison dharma: (answer required) .
I am a volunteer chaplain in the Seattle King County Juvenile Detention Center. I am a Unitarian Universalist and a graduate student at Seattle University's School of Theology and Ministry, which is how I became involved in volunteering with youth in jail.I serve with the Catholics in this prison ministry. I have begun to explore mediation to help myself handle the painful stories I witness and I believe it can help youth. I hope to develop a program to do in the Juvenile Detention Center. They have one program, Yoga Behind Bars, and one other meditation group coming in twice a month.I am interested in bridging between Christianity and meditation practice and am doing research on this subject when I have time.I am also a chaplain (now long distance) to a young man I met two years ago who has been sent to Walla Walla State Penitentiary in eastern Washington to serve a 35-year sentence. I want to help him live the best possible life he can live until he is released. I believe meditation can help him.

Welcome Lisa Ashley!

Glad you found us.  This is a wonderful online community, we hope it serves you.  Do you know of Father Thomas Keating?  He is a Catholic priest who also studied Zen Buddhism and then developed "Centering Prayer" which is Christian contemplative meditation.

We're looking forward to seeing your posted pictures, video's, blogs, discussion, topics, etc. Please let us know if you have any questions about the site or check out the "help" section at the top of the page.

Please post a picture of yourself.  It helps make this space have a more community like feel to it.

Thanks and welcome aboard!

Warmly,

Carter ~ PDN Staff
