While I was locked up I developed a type of Tonglen practice that I think is very helpful on a heart level. I breath in the pain and harm I caused my victims, and breath out my purest well being to those who have harmed or victimized me. I generate empathy for my victims, and a way to let go and forgive the wrong done to me. I have been told, by the powers that be in the Florida DOC, the average grade level of a prisoner in our state is 6th. This is challanging to say the least when some is trying to expeirecne the dharma beyond sitting meditation. TIbetan texts especially can be challanging However, a lot of prisoners are karmicly drawn to it whether they understand it or not--or at least well enough to explain how they underddrand it to others.
