One of my students, who's a Native American inmate, wrote asking me how to handle the fact that someone--in this case an institutional chaplain--had betrayed his confidence and totally compromised him with his peers. Here's a bit of what I wrote back to him:
Here are some techniques you might want to try. You'll have to experiment and see which ones work best for your situation. Practice is always an experiment in the real world. First of all, don't call that person any names in your…

If you have the emails of Alan up at UW (I've been following his research, too) and the other gentleman you mentioned, please feel free to invite them to the site!
Thank you for hanging out here,
Erin
I am a member of the Shambhala Center of Washington. DC, and a student at the University of Mary Washington, in Virginia, finishing a bachelor's degree in leadership theory with a concentration in organizational behavior.
For many several now, I have followed the work of the Prison Dharma Network. I am writing at this time because I am doing a research paper and presentation for one of my classes, and the topic I have chosen is the impact of prison meditation programs. The project will discuss the benefits of meditation, as documented by recent medical research, describe existing prison meditation programs, and provide insight into the impact of these programs, as reported by participants.
As an ex-prisoner and meditation practitioner, I would like to interview you about your experiences, specifically how you came to meditate and how you feel it has impacted you.
Please feel free to contact me via email (LaughingRiver@gmail.com) or telephone (703-975-2725).
Many thanks!
Lisa
i am happy to tell you that my project in Israel`s prisons, meditation class for prisoners, is now running in 5 prisons
Now i move on to create groups of prison guards. I would be grateful if you could share with me your experience, if you have, with such groups – , programs, testimonials, practical problems, and so on.
Yours sincerely –

Just wanted to let you know (although you've likely heard it before) how helpful your book has been both for me and for the folks I've sent it to. There's a copy now in the little B'ist library I put together at the prison I volunteer at here in Canada.

I have wanted to spend more time north of the border and getting to know the city of Vancouver, so I would be happy to come up and do a workshop. There are people in prison work I would also like to meet while there. I could either do something for the Gay Buddhist community or for prison Dharma people--or both.
If you want to help organize something, I'd be very grateful.
Royally expectant of promotion,
/Kobai
