Sex after Prison: Too Many Expectations?

Posted on July 19, 2007 at 5:32pm 1 Comment

One of the first things we think about after leaving the pen is when we're going to have sex. It's is usually up there with the first thing we want to eat--maybe higher. In the years of incarceration, it is the deprivation of sex that is a part of the 'punishment' that society inflicts when it sequesters the prisoner. The yearning for sex is a part of the tension one feels in prison, which is manifested by pornography and other forms of sexual imagery.

But once one leaves prison; what…

Ishaq Abdul Malikulmulk aka Louis Cox 1942-2007

My father, Ishaq, aka Louis Cox, passed away a few weeks ago. This great man began a real concrete legacy of Islam in America. In the late 1960's, he and the sisters and brothers formed the Dar ul Islam Movement in New York City (Brooklyn). My dad was the first wazir (deputy or officer) of education for the small, growing community, and he held this position, by proxy, for many years.

One of his great acheivements was the introduction of…

I live in Harrisburg, Pa now, but I was in NYC on Monday. Still the same stuff: Chinatown was a madhouse from the Holland tunnel all the way to the Manhattan Bridge. Mangoes are six for a dollar; you can get A chessecake from Juniors on Flatbush Extension; and ate real Pizza from a man with an authentic Napoli accent. I haven't seen so many Senegalese, Hatians, Hasidic--Satmar and Lubavitch--Jews (miss the gefilte fish, and the lox), real Soca coming from booming moving speaker trucks, and the Brooklyn swagger, in a long, long time.
New York has as many cops as the population of Harrisburg, no, Camp Hill, Pa, where I work.
I am a son of SOHO, DUMBO, ENY, and BedStuy!
New York, good ole, N.Y.!

Hey Dorothy, nice to meet you too. I like that saying because if I were to get caught up in the 'holiness' of the Buddha, I'd lose him. So there! :)

Hi Idris, nice to meet you. About the Buddha's voice and the fart... The phenomenal world is basically good and expresses Buddha nature.
Just my thought.

Yes! to love, freedom and success!

I don't have anu ambivalence, its just that I've been in prison so long that I needed a hiatus from the scene. I actually love the brotherhood I get from my former cellies, and I get much love from them today. I have changed from their brother-prisoner, to a symbol of freedom and success.

Yes - this does seem a good place to connect with others. Kate is very good at creating the space for connection. You have some ambivalence of connecting with the 'prison movement'?
