Interesting work from ADPSR (Architects/Designers/Planners for Social Responsibility:

They are "pledging to not participate in the design, construction, or renovation of prisons. We also invite you to learn more about the prison system, to join us in envisioning more just and productive alternatives to incarceration, and to work towards a society that treats all its members with dignity, equality, and…

Vipassana behind bars in....Alabama?

Whoa everybody, this one really threw me for a loop!

I don't want to reinforce any negative sterotypes about my home state Alabama (Dear Ole Dixie), but needless to say I was a bit surprised to watch a trailer about this new movie The Dhamma Brothers.

This movie is about how some filmmakers and meditation teachers held the first 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat in a maximum security prison in… Continue

Hi Sarah,
Sometime back (Dec. 07) you offered to send my brother some info. He did receive it, and I thank you for that. I have tried getting him interested in Dharma, but it is simply not for him "at this point". He thanks you also. Just wanted to make sure I had said that. Thanks, Annie

Hey Sarah!! How are you?? Are you still here in Colorado? I went to OM Time on New Years Day in Boulder for a workout with Jeanie. It was my first time with her. My life has been crazy. I just moved to Thornton. I hope I see you before you leave.

I had no idea this was coming from a Buddhist thing but should have guessed by the Dharma bit, no big deal to me really but I know a lot and don't know a lot about the Buddha, if you catch my drift! How could I fit into your scheme of things if I am sort of coming from another place, other than Buddhism? It is my concerns with the way the British prison system works that I would like to get into but being an ex-con excludes me from certain areas of prison reform, which is what I'm about. British prisons create drug addicts simply by the methods they use for the detection of drugs in an inmates system. I have written to the British Medical journal about this situation, no reply. I have written to various Members of Parliament and even an ex Home Secretary but no one is interested even though they know this is happening! Maybe I am just naive or just plain stupid for not accepting this, this is the wau it is and that is THAT!!!! WHY? That's what I want to know. Young men are jailed and they might do a little dope and that is all but by the time they have completed their sentence and back on the street a lot of them are heroin addicts, I have seen this with my own eyes. I know of 3 young guys who had overdosed and died when they got some strong gear after leaving prison. If you looked at my book Prison and Beyond by John Simons on ebooks at chipmunkapublishing.co.uk, you might get some idea of where I'm coming from. The other thing is that I have a Master, Maharaji aka Prem Rawat, who revealed to me the way to go within and find peace by a thing we call Knowledge, to know, self explanatory really but I'm sure you know of him already. OK that is it, I said enough bye for now!!!!

Hi Sarah, thanks for adding me. I saw that you are into yoga and live in Boudler. I LOVE Boulder. One day hopefully I can make it my home. For now, I will visit. I teach yoga and would love if you ever hear of any oppurtunities where a teacher is needed. I am interested in learning more about this site considering my eyes have opened since my brother went to prison. Well write whenver you get the chance. Namaste. PS Have you been to the Dushanbe Teahouse? I just went, it rocks.

Thank you for the invitation. True freedom is within. The prison bars are the paradigms we subscribe to; the prison guard our mental machine, endlessly dictating its invented responsibilities; the lock is on the heart, and the key is love. Every breath brings the possibility of true freedom. Peace is possible.

Oh wow, I didn't know Tuscaloosa was your hometown. I used to live there. It was actually horrifically traumatic for me but there were some good things about it. You basically have to hide in Manna Grocery and in the bookstore to survive that place but I guess it's easier to find resources in a place when it's your hometown, eh?

Hi Sarah! Thanks for adding me. I'm still figuring out the site navigation here. It's also finally nice to connect a person to the name I send bookmooch donations to! What a great program and I'm all too happy to be behind it.
