A new study offers the strongest evidence to date that meditation can change the structure of your brain

I consider myself something of a prospective meditator—meaning that a serious meditation practice is always something I’m about to start… next week.  So for years, I’ve been making a mental note of new…

4 long months later

i have been out of prison for four months and have done so much, and so little. after my release i was staying at my moms house in iowa, two weeks after i got out i was in the ER getting my gal bladder removed. six weeks with my drunk mother was enough to drive me crazy, so my and my mastiff puppy, named Dharma hit the road, we hitch hiked to seattle, saw lots of friends and sudo family who i have not seen since before i got locked up. five days on my Dharma mentors farm in olympia, wa was…

Samsara Blues

All of my life, as far back as I can remember, I've been looking for the end of the movie, the part where the end-credits roll. Empathy for those I've Harmed.

While I was locked up I developed a type of Tonglen practice that I think is very helpful on a heart level.  I breath in the pain and harm I caused my victims, and breath out my purest well being to those who have harmed or victimized me.  I generate empathy for my victims, and a way to let go and forgive the wrong done to me.  The best way, I feel, to do this is first Go for refuge in the Three Jewels, then I do 10-30 minutes of shamatha and then enter into Tonglen in this manner until I…
