Who are You?

Last night we went into Moran (A medium security prison at the Rhode Island DOC) with one question in mind:

Who Am I?

This was our third week of a 15 part weekly Path of Freedom class. We are using material from the workbook "The Path to Freedom" written by our one and only, Kate Crisp (Prison Dharma Network's Executive…

One group consists of some people who will stay with me from now on for at least 5 years or even 10...if I will be alive at that time...what a world, it is unbelievable, and all these children of these men, who have to deal with it...and there is a second group of socalled sexual offenders, everybody wants them dead, but me....we do vipassana, and they are doing well, very well indeed. Second run of Path of Freedom Class begins!

It was really cool, the room was totally full, there were 47 guys in total! We're conducting a research study to see how this stuff actually translates into transformation. Its exciting, and I'm looking forward to the next 13 weeks.

Stay tuned for next week's topic and blog entry: "Training the Mind"

By Chris Dowling

When the dust settled and I was all moved into my new life’s quarters at Trauma USA, I continued my search for a location to meditate and pray. My sons were in prison, my new life had begun. I lived in the belly of trauma, a minefield of the predictable and unpredictable.

About 5 years ago, I found myself in conversation with a church leader about the scheduled meditation his church facilitated. During our… Continue

A Global Lesson in Hope: Concern for Justice Worldwide

In a six by eight foot jail cell there’s barely room for a bunk, a seatless toilet, and a postage-sized sink. The only other space you have in jail is in your head, and even that gets crowded with all the people you carry around in there who you resent for the things they did to you.

The world is pretty small when you’re locked up, especially if you’re a kid doing time with a healthy body that needs to move, energy sizzling through you like high tension wires, your emotions…
