In Arms Reach is a New York City-based organization that aims to prepare children with incarcerated parents for admission into college.
Their intent is to nurture self-confidence and creative skills, as well as reinforce positive behaviors while decreasing emotional withdrawal.
In Arms Reach has an A-list of celebrity board members and advisors, including hip-hop legend Russell Simmons, NFL-star Carl Banks, and former New York City Mayor, Hon. David N. Dinkins.
Children are offered tutoring and personal mentoring, leadership development, music and art classes, and the opportunity to visit their parents in prisons.
Grammy-nominated singer/song-writer, John Forte designed the In Arms Reach music curriculum that addresses difficult emotions like anger and stress by encouraging the children to compose music and participate in live shows. Forte aims to empower them by nurturing creative passion.
Children also have the opportunity to visit their parents on prison-visiting days in a stylish Cadillac stretch limousine, donated to In Arms Reach by Senior Record Executive and rapper, Tim Martin.
