Music from the Big House inspires prison art & activism
Canadian Blues Singer, Rita Chiarelli, wanted to get to the roots of her genre's musical history. Her journey led her to the infamous Angola State Prison, where several grandfathers of American blues music served time years ago. What Rita discovered behind the walls of the massive prison complex was a thriving music culture ripe with talent. While originally she sought to perform her music for the prisoners, Johnny Cash/Folsom Prison-style, she was so inspired by the talented ensembles the prisoners had formed, she opted to perform along side of them instead.
Music from the Big House is touching documentary about the making of Rita Chiarelli's Angola Prison concert and the prisoners who shared the stage with her. The film presents as much about the hard reality of life on the inside as it does about the liberation music can bring when it touches the heart.
Every true music lover will appreciate this film!
Rita Chiarelli is presenting her film, Music from the Big House, at independent theaters all over the United States.
